Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Champion Lean/CI methodologies and processes to deliver improved productivity, efficiency, quality, cost, customer service, and safety
Ensure sufficient capacity to meet customer demands
Manage talent (e.g., development, succession planning, performance management)
Plan and implement safety policies and training in compliance with company safety program and OHS regulations to eliminate work-related injuries
Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems
Confer with managers to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and obtain necessary data on customer orders and delivery needs
Plan and direct production and establish priorities, balancing effective customer service and cost factors, and optimizing utilization of people and equipment
Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality and safety
Revise product schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems, and consult with Engineering on equipment modification and other continuous improvement efforts, and consult with Sales on customer priorities
Assume leadership role with associate relations, including morale, ongoing communications, and change management
Use division targets to set stretch goals and ensure budgets are met
Leads Plant Operations including supply management, production scheduling, manufacturing process, shipping maintenance, people management and implementation of change initiatives, taking a balanced approach to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as safety, people, quality, service, and cost
Utilize best-in-class strategies, practices, and programs to create an Operation and Supply Chain Delivery Model aligned to the needs and direction of the company
Ensure optimal levels of materials, workforce planning, and operational capacity to meet customer demands
In partnership with subordinate Leadership Team, review and analyze production, quality, maintenance, and Supply Chain reports/data to determine root cause(s) of non-conformance to KPIs
Functional/Technical Competencies
In partnership with Manager of Human Resources, roll-out and adoption of Corporate Employee Performance, Development and Succession Planning Programs; Safety Policy and Training in compliance to Company Safety and OHS Regulation Programs
In partnership with internal Engineering and external Corporate Engineering Team, identify equipment modifications and CI opportunities. Present well thought out CAPEX requests/business cases in alignment to company KPIs
In partnership with Site Controller and Corporate Logistics Team, balance prudent budgeting and cost control with internal Logistics and external 3PLs partners in the delivery of Customer Service excellence
Assume leadership role with associate relations, including morale, ongoing communications, and change management
Review and conduct system of layered audits for all functions on site
Lead industrial relations and negotiations for site
Participate in site specific and special projects as needed
Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree (Business or Engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
5-10 years related experience in an automated Lean Manufacturing environment
Bilingual an asset
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proficient in MS Office and familiar with ERP and SMMS systems
Able to lead change initiatives and transform environment
Goal oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
Able to work in high volume/short lead time environment; Lean Manufacturing experience
Complete commitment to Safety and regulatory compliance
Experience with Union Labour Relations and Management
Knowledgeable of Provincial legislation i.e. Human Rights, Labour Relations, Employment Standards, Occupational H&S
Job Factors/Work Environments
Up to 15% travel. Hands on direct leadership in the manufacturing environment
Frequent walking of the Plant floor required.
