What You'll Do:

 

The Accounting Manager, Operations is a key position at Serta Simmons Bedding on the Accounting Shared Service team. The position provides a unique opportunity to grow your career by deepening your cost accounting and management skills while also utilizing your technical knowledge to provide accounting guidance to not only your team, but various plants, finance, and business operations partners as well. The position is responsible for managing the execution of accounting processes for several critical areas for the Business including Inventory, Sales, Royalties, Freight, Accounts Payable Accruals, Plant & Operational spend, and related controllership compliance reporting. The position reports to the Director, General Accounting and coordinates the daily activities of the operational team to accurately record the financial transactions generated by business activities.  

 

The Accounting Manager, Operations supports Regional Management with timely financial reporting information and analysis, as required. The Manager works closely with partners in the organization in the development, implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures and controls related to the operational accounting area. The position also plays a crucial role in implementing system enhancements to streamline current processes and will have opportunities to participate in special cross functional projects.

How You'll Do It:

 

  • Manage a dynamic team of two Operational Staff and two Senior Accountants in the performance of assigned accounting areas including training, development, and performance management of the team to consistently meet deadlines and kpi metrics
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting deliverables, including, but not limited to, journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Use financial and accounting experience and acumen to analyze and interpret data to make any recommendations on possible courses of action as appropriate
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded with sufficient documentation to support the business purpose of the transactions
  • Review and enhance the monthly balance sheet account reconciliations on an ad-hoc basis and assist staff in researching differences
  • Drive standardization across financial processes of the regions and operations
  • Coordinate with department management to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures; recommend improvements to policies as appropriate
  • Provide timely and accurate financial information and analysis to support both internal and external reporting
  • Support Operations Finance and FP&A reporting as required
  • Ensure change directives are implemented at the shared services center
  • Understand and execute internal controls related to accountabilities; proactively seek opportunities to strengthen internal controls
  • Support external and internal audit requirements
  • Partner with FP&A, Financial Reporting, Plant Controllers, A/R & A/P Accounting Shared Services and/or Global Licensing groups to ensure that the business accounting needs are being met
  • Support regional management with financial analysis as required
  • Ensure agreed upon Service Level Agreements are met
  • Ad-hoc tasks and/or projects as necessary

 

What You'll Bring:

 

  • BA / BS degree in Accounting or Finance
  • A minimum of 5 years accounting experience, with at least 2 years in public accounting
  • Professional accountancy certification such as CPA, CIMA, ACCA, ACA
  • Consistent, demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting, GAAP procedures and SOX controllership
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
