Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Following the overall EHS strategy, you will plan, organize, and lead the plant’s environmental, health, and safety management systems and activities
Plan and control budgeted EHS expenditures always seeking ways to minimize spending without sacrificing the quality or effectiveness of EHS policies or programs
Owns and manages the plant safety audit system, ensuring they are performed as scheduled and data is captured, monitored and used to drive improvements
Maintain, monitor and report on all EHS performance metrics
Assist in the development and maintenance of EHS-related site-specific written programs/policies/procedures (such as Lockout-Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Mobile Equipment, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, etc.). Ensure these policies and procedures are fully deployed and maintained within the plant
Effectively manage all EHS-related cases, including injury care, incident investigation, corrective actions, documentation, and reporting to internal/external parties as appropriate for the plant
Partner with the HRBP to maintain working knowledge of work-related injury/ worker’s compensation program.
Supervise the maintenance of all material safety data sheets (MSDS’s) to ensure they are always up-to-date and readily accessible.
Maintain employee industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring and related records for the plant
Develop and distribute safety materials for daily meetings as well as classroom/hands-on training.
Develop annual training plan based on the needs of each department
Manage site compliance with all applicable safety and environmental company policies, regulations and/or permits to minimize risks to employees and the organization
Ensure that the facility remains in compliance with City, County, OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations, as well as Serta Simmons Bedding EHS standards
Perform other duties as assigned
Functional/Technical Competencies
Five years working experience in EHS in a manufacturing environment. Experience in conducting incident investigation, hazard analysis/assessments, and problem solving.
Good working knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA fire codes, ANSI standards, etc.). Strong orientation toward data and financial analysis. Familiar with Lean and Quality Management techniques and systems
Ensure that all required reports are submitted to Corporate EHS and government agencies, as needed (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
Actively engage in cultural activities within the plant to ensure a positive perception exists within the workforce regarding the EHS department
Assist Human Resource (HR) Manager in new employee orientation process as needed, including, but not limited to, injury reporting, substance abuse program, and employee return-to-work program
Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental science, engineering, or another related field.
Board certified ASP, OHST, CSP, QEP, CIH or other recognized certification/diplomas AND Technical/Management expertise in the areas of Human Operation Performance (HOP), Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Machine Guarding, Behavior Based Safety (BBS), ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and EHS related systems are preferred.
Job Factors/Work Environments
Limited travel. Some travel to other plants and/or Corporate office to support EHS policy and procedures may be required. Cross functional team environment. Work environment will include shop floor, outside grounds, office, and training room.
Key Relationships
Extensive interaction with EHS Leadership, Manufacturing Leaders, Engineering, Plant Department Managers, Supply Chain and Quality, HR, and third parties such as Workers Comp and other technical expertise.
